The directors of documentary film think how to best inform the viewers by information and also with a viewpoint that deals with emotion. I think that people do interpret things differently, so some might favor a certain mode of documentary that others don't. Directors can make the viewer feel as though they are there, for instance if they showed images of the aftermath of the twin towers. Directors could just interview people and get the facts. It all differs and depends on how the director portrays it and how the viewers interpret it.
